Bill, you'll be very impressed with the 1.6 Pentium M.

I have a 2.2 Pentium M with 1.5gb of RAM (hp NW8000), and it outperforms my 3.0 Pentium 4 workstation under my desk at work with 1gb of Ram by a LONG shot.

The M is a VERY good processor. Mine has the DVD/CDRW combo, a 7200rpm 60 gig and a 5400 rpm 60gig. The 5400 will go either in the laptop or in the extra drive bays of my port replicator (2 bays there, one extra in the laptop that will also take the extra battery).

Bill I wish I worked there... sweet equip they got for ya.

I've got the HP compaq nc6000 lap for work with the 1.6M and it'* pretty impressive. Definately does well next to my home desktop 2.8gig with one gig ram.

The NC6000 is simply the 'thinned down' version of my NW8000. I've got an extra expansion bay, not sure if the 6000 does? Or the SD slot? Plus two PC card slots, wireless lan, bluetooth, etc. And the upgraded video for my CAD work. My laptop is actually my primary CAD workstation now. The 8000 is not considered a laptop, but rather a Mobile Workstation.

All of our nc6000'* here have wireless Lan, and we're fully wired for it. The wireless on my nw8000 came in very handy during my travels last month. Every airport has wireless Lan now.

I still haven't used the Gigabit on my laptop yet except for a PC link.

If i don't have wifi when i turn on my laptop, it'* werid.

Nice rig, the pentium M is nice, does have some places where it'* not as good as a p4 (straight up encoding, repetitive tasks) but the huge cache makes it SOOO fast.

I see abot 5 hrs to a charge on mine running @ 600mhz unplugged.
