the new eclipse
Sports car is one designed with purpose. Things like S2000, 350z Corvette, those are sports cars. Not a price. Hell a Miata is a sports car
Sporty = things like eclipse, GP, civic Type R (euro one) Altima SE-R (this thing is cool).
Kinda like Pony vs Muscle cars.

Well
I intend to get a supercharger from ZZP. Just waiting for it to comeout.
I just meant it sucks to be into cars all together becuase its such an expensive hobby. Especially modding.
One Day Ill get a super fast car like the C6 Zo6 when the things a few years old.

If I had the money I would buy one. Though the Neon SRT-4 is faster, its still a NEON!
Definitly better than the Cobalt and everything Honda and Toyota make in the "sport compact" category.

The new Eclipse is clearly faster then a Miata on the 1/4..... I think at best the Miata on a 1/4 would do maybe high 15s.... however the Miata is great for going around turns like nobodys business..... I would say a car 'like' the Eclipse could be a more 'rounded' sports car then the Miata, which is only built to take turns really well.
As for the 350Z and the S2000....... the new SRT-4 matches and maybe even beats them on the 1/4 mile. Now I know both the 350Z and the S2000 are probably better on a skidpad, but the SRT-4 is built for speed.
So your defination clearly needs a bit of work...... or at least is open to lots of grey area...... by your own words a sports car is built for purpose.... therefore the Eclipse could be considered a more rounded sports car then the Miata.... and the SRT-4 is clearly a sports car.
Just because it'* faster doesn't mean it'* more sporty. Would you call a Bentley Arnage more sporting then a lotus elise?
Basically mine boils down to focus. Sure an MR2 is "slow" but it'* built for fun. An SRT-4 is an economy car with mods to it. The chassis wasn't designed for entusiastic driving IMO.
That'* how i look at it. No one else has to subscribe to this...

Sorry.... was just trying to go by your words.....
Just kinda looked like you picked what you defined as a sports car based on what you liked/disliked.... or how much you liked it.
Saw your comment about "designed with purpose" and had to ask/test to see if you really did have some logic to your labelling of a "sports car".
I would say that the SRT-4 is built to go fast. Yes it'* economical, but it'* built with the purpose to go fast, and it does it well.
That'* all.... I know no one has to subscribe to your labelling system..... I was just testing it......

But the SRT is just a neon underneath with a nice engine, and a worked over suspension, Yes it'* great and all, but the chassis and all wasn't designed for it from the get go.
A miata has 2 doors for a reason, etc. It wasn't a rehash.
Hey that'* how i look at stuff... I'm weird. Going to bar to be normal, well atleast for this crowd.
