Default new craigslist turn-around project?

have a chance to buy a black 1996 Suburban 4x4 with 220k. The guys says its in rough condtion interior wise since he used it as a work truck, but the exterior is fine, no rust. New tran, new alt, batt, runs perfect, alt pw pl. I could get it for ~$1500. It books around $3-4k. I wouldn't mind a 4x4 to keep though. I'll have pics up later this afternoon when I go see it.

what kind of problems do they have? how long is that engine expected to last?

According to Brian (Gonneville), the Suburban is a chick car, so idk know if you should get it...

But yeah, that seems like a great deal. I had a '97 Suburban that I used to beat the sh*t out of, and it lasted all the way up to 160k miles... No slipping, engine ran perfectly, that thing was a tank... Interior wasn't the greatest, but I didn't care, I could get to my friend Sean'* house by going through his forest! Averaged 10 mpg, though

Oh one more thing, 350 or 454???

not sure on the engine yet, I'll find out later.

how the hell is a suburban a chick car?

I'm not sure how long I can afford to keep it with going to school and not having a job, but I called the DMV and they can expedite the title process for $20, and I would get it in 4 days instead of 2-3 months like it took for my PA. If I could sell it for anything more than a $500 profit it would be worth it IMO.

Exactly...

Don't expect to profit off of it what-so-ever. There'* almost no demand for these trucks. We were trying to sell the truck for a good 2 years, one of those years 2k under blue book...
No bites, I put it up on craigslist, auto trader, almost put it up on ebay, but I decided I was done with it all and dumped it on a dealer... If you're gonna buy it, the only thing you can do with it IMO is to lift it and put 38" boggers on it :P

The market in each state is different, there may be high (ish) demand in MN compared to Ohio. I would do some market research first.

Still doesn't hurt to check it out.

Unless he accepts an offer < 1000 bucks, I'd walk. You won't get anything out of it for 1500 bucks.

I am really having a hard time believing that.

People aren't going to pass up a good winter 4x4 for $2k

Granted it hasn't sold, but check this one out: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/car/567323238.html

That'* a clean '96 with 60k less miles. I took into account the (assumed) condition of the truck, the mileage and the work it'll take to get it looking nice... Anyways, it'* just my two cents from my own experiences. Like Cody said, your market might be better than mine...
