Default Need a new Digtal Camera? · · · · · · Olympus vs Sony Review

I just acquired a Sony DSC-W90. This camera is to replace my Olympus C7000.

I thought I would do a little price/image quality comparison. 3 Cameras, 3 pics.

Each at the default "economy" settings, meaning that each file was just under 2MB. Each camera has a 2GB card and could hold 1000 pictures in the compression mode I shot with.

Sony DSC-W90.
Original Price: $299
Street Price: $179 (best buy)

Olympus C7000
Original Price: $599
Street Price: $90-$120 (ebay)

Olympus E-330 with 14x45mm lens
Original Price: $1199
Street Price: $300-$400 (ebay)

The next set is at full resolution cropped. As you can see the E-330 has the best quality, the C7000 and Sony seem very close in comparison.

Overall the Sony is a GREAT buy at $180. It is super small and takes decent pictures for such a small lens. It has limited features however.

The Olympus C7000 is very comparable to the Sony in picture quality but it can be had for much cheaper.

The Olympus E-330 SLR is also a good buy right now at $300-$400. It takes pictures which are more accurate than the rest however it is very large to carry around.

I've had 3 Sony'* in a row. Currently have the H3. You might find the features you're looking for at less than you'd pay for the similar comparison.
