Default need a little help

Well me and my buddy are giving his 1973 el camino a tune up, and his engine has never had anything done to it im pretty much trying to keep it alive. My question is since the engine is older should I open up the gap a little bit on the plug, oh ya he'* got a 5.7 liter 350 that we're doing this to.Last time we changed them the auto parts store told us to put autolite double platinum'* in it with a gap of .035 and they fouled out within 2000 miles.Im gunna go with champion truck plugs.
