Default Need help removing a Transmission....

Ok, couple technical questions. I am going to be trying to remove a transmission tomorrow and I need to know what I should be aware of.

First, the car is a 92 Lumina Z34.

Questions:

Do I need any special tools, for say removing the axles?

Once I unbolt the bell housing (and other visible parts) will the tranny just pull off the flywheel?

Will I need to drop the subframe, and if so, what size bolt should I be expecting?

Aside from the bellhousing bolts, and the mounts, are there any other points that hold the transmission on?

And technical help would be greatly appretiated. I am going tomorrow morning. Anyone in or near binghamton that wants to help, leave me your number or just show up. www.garysupullit.com

If your not dropping the engine and trans together you'll need to get a long extension to get to this hidden bolt on the bellhousing.
I'm not positive on the lumina but I know my 90 regal uses a 34mm hub nut.

Heres an easy way of doing this. All you need is a big parking lot, what you do is you get going abou 65 and slam it into Reverse and that should pretty much do it. On a serious note, the TC when you pull the trans out and a large screwdriver or pry bar to get the half shaft out of the trans. Thats all I can think of right now.

ok, I'll be getting a 32 and 34mm tomorrow morning on the way out there. In that picture, I'm assuming that is near the upper portion in the rear(spark plugs are from the rear bank) That picture helps a lot. i'll be picking up an extension set tomorrow as well.

So a pry bar will work to get the halfshafts out of the tranny? That I have. I'm going to try to re-tain the half shafts as I may need them to fab up new ones.

How hard is the clutch to get off? am I going to need to grab the fly wheel too?

Thanks for the help thus far. I'm only taking the tranny out of the car, hopefully through the driver'* side wheel area. Not sure what the subframe will require to lower. I just hope it'* not too rusty that the bolts don't come off.

Thanks guys for the help. Took 5 hours, an impact gun and torch from the Yard Man, and some wiggling to loosen the throwout bearing, but I got it out. That MF was heavy too. thankfully this yard has a shuttle service that picked me up at the car and dropped me off at the entrance. Oh, and someone had removed the axles already, so I didn't even have to worry about them.
