when you turn on the PC right after the biso like going into safe mode, when you hit F8 or F5 both owrks, there should be a option to choose VGA mod, it will boot in to like 640x480 or 800X600 mod and you'll be albe to change it

Did you get a disc w/ the monitor. It may be possible to load the monitor drivers and that may change the res for you.

If that does not work, you may try and lower the color (ex. 256 in safe mode) and see if it will hold over. The lower colors will force you to use lower res.

I do this kind of stuff on the side and I forgot that....good look but I wonder. If he was booting each time into safe mode didnt the menu give him that choice each time? I assumed he tried it
