for my current monitor, I had a choice of buying a generic 19" montor, or a premium 17". I went with a Viewsonic 17" P75f+, it'* black. It was like $275 CDN or something, I forget.

I set up a second workstation for my old computer a few weeks ago. Needed a new monitor. This time, $170 CDN was spent for an LG 17" Flatron ez T710BH. It'* purely crap compared to the Viewsonic. You really do get what you pay for.

Tigerdirect is the cheapest. There is one store who sells it for $176, and the rest are at least $220. Plus I want to pick up a KVM. The TG warehouse is about an hour from here, and I get their shipments next day using UPS ground. I had to return a CPU once, and it wasn't too bad, the worst part is that they needed a supervisor to give me the "code" and that took a few days, but beyond that, all went smoothly.

I don't like pricewatch, because there are a lot of deadbeat companies on there, and I feel much more secure with tigerdirect.

Whatever you do, Stay away from KDS monitors! I had the one I bought fail under 3mo, the replacement fail under 3mo, the next replacement fail under 3mo..... then I had dad fix it. It works great now, but the vertical is going out. Every single one of them had the horizontal circuits go... peices of crap.

WHy is an LCD less dependable? They're in laptops which take abuse...

I've never liked MAG or KDS for performance.

I disagree-- 'good' lcd'* have not been within consumer price range long enough to make such a statement. I think that the quality of LCD'* being produced now will stand up to those 21" crt'* that i have seen last 5-8 years

Funny thing you have this problem. I have the same MAG Innovision moniter (21" -17" viewable) and it too is going to the dump. Any picture or color, and there is a shadow the same height as the color or picture and all the way across the screen. Very annoying.
It doesn't fill the space though. I have about 8" on either side and 5" above it.
I'm looking at a nice PB flat panel at a local store that sells goods from stores that were shut down from accidents (flood, fire, etc...). It is 19" viewable and I forget the dimensions otherwise, but the price isn't too bad -$139.95. I remember looking at the pertintent info and thinking that it was a very nice monitor for the bling-bling.

I have a NEC and have never had problems. You will like it if you decide to go with it.
