Default Members who have built a house...

My wife and I have just decided to build a house. We've already selected a builder, lot, and a model. Everyone so far has expressed about their concerns "watch out for this" "look out for that", "don't let them nickle and dime you". But nothing specific, are there any members here who have built their own house and have comments, opinions, warnings to share with a fellow member?

Any input would be great. I would rather not hear "well, my parents did this, my parents did that" I would prefer to hear from the ones who actually went through it...

I work as an architectural designer and have done a handful of freelance renovation and new home construction projects. Currently I am designing a home for a member here on BC.

Mike, I have not built a home for my own personal use, but this is my bread and butter, if you have any questions pertaining to construction practices or design concerns feel free to drop me an email or PM. Be advised, that if you have selected a home from a set of plans (production plans or pre-designed) you still have some control over how things will be laid out.

Good luck with your project. Its a very exciting time for you I am sure
