Just wondering if there are any on here, and how they have been liking the career?
Im in school now for mechanical engineering and design and its been pretty fun so far, just seeing how experience people in the field like it?

What college are you attending? I have known a couple guys up here who are engineers (my ex'* father for one) and it seems theirs' or some of their collegues jobs' are moving them around the country more lately -they still like the work though. My ex'* dad is kinda being pushed into transferring from the plant he'* worked at for 17 yr'* in Staples to either Denver or Detroit (which he doesn't want since he came here to get away from Detroit). He said he'* hoping to hold his position here as all the family is all here (both immediate and cousins, uncles, aunts etc...).
I have been wanting to take Mechanical Engineering, Draft and Design up at UM-D(uluth) as they have a really good program up there, but it'* gonna take more $$ than I can afford now. I'm hoping to get enough together over the next 2 years and then jump in (I know -getting my degree at 30+ yo is a little late for me, but it'd still be worth it)

I am a mechanical engineer finishing up my thesis for my masters degree in Mech Eng pertaining to finite element analysis and modelling. I currently don't have a job, but am looking. I have my bachelor'* degree from Clarkson University (Potsdam, NY) and will have my master'* degree from Rochester Institute of Technology (Rochester, NY). I have coop'd with Goulds Pumps (ITT Industries) in Seneca Falls, NY and loved every minute of that job. When I was there I primarily was designing pump parts into Pro/ENGINEER. That Coop lasted over a year by the time everything was all said and done. I have also worked for RIT - Center for Manufacturing Studies where I was paid by the Office of Naval Research to conduct the research necessary for my master'* thesis.
I grew up on a 2500 acre cash crop farm where I worked for my father since I was old enough to pick up a wrench. That'* where I got the engineering bug. We were always building things in our shop.
Enough of my backgound, as long as you love the feild you are in, you'll have a blast every day you're at work.

It can be challenging and stressful. It'* a results-oriented field. If you don't produce, you're gone. Be prepared to work LONG hours.
The entire month of December, I worked 12-16 hours a day, 5 days a week, and still brought work home.

I gotta say, you got your stuff in one sack, still made time for the kids and BC with that schedule. You live on coffee and nicotine?
I couldnt hold that pace for much longer than 30 days without cracking.
I'm in my junior year of Mechanical Engineering and it'* definatley starting to get interesting. I've also been interning for the navy for the past 3 summers and decided to go back right now during break.
Theres alot of diffrent routes job wise out there for ME'*. It all depends what you want to do.

I have a semester left for my associates in Computer Aided Engineering. Then I am going for the ME at Oakland University. I should have went strait for the ME but the assoc. wont hurt..
