It, along with all the other sections have always been members only for posting, otherwise you would get tonnes of guest posts. But members only for viewing IS new and I have a few guesses as to why, LOL.

It actually makes sense to me for many reasons. On top of keeping the riff-raff out, one would assume a non-memeber would be here looking for Bonne related info. Not our general Lounge sillieness.
