Hey Ryan, don't knock the F18 too hard. She'* a bad little jet, considering what she was designed for....
And just as cool looking as can be!! Hornet was the perfect name for the F18. Kinda has a waspy look to her....

Look at the photo credits and dates to figure out how 'young' I am. That was more than half way through my active duty time.

So you were a pilot then in the service while active?
If so, I really envy you......My dream would be to fly fighter or bomber jets.

I wasn't a pilot, but did fly back seat a couple times over Guam. I worked avionics. Everything from lighting to Avionics, electrohydraulics, flight controls, autopilot, fuel transfer, generators, etc.
I did have high power and taxi licenses. (I could afterburner the engines and taxi-test the birds).

Yea I ment the planes.
I'm knocking the F-18. Bad and little do sum it up. Who ever thought up the cockpit needs to be smacked. I've had to replace so many chassis on ALR-67 Contol ind for cracks due to a lack of support it'* not even funny. There 2-300 bucks ea and take 4-8 hrs to gut. arrrgh! The way the EW system is installed make the O level techs pull the wrong boxes cause the one thats causeing the gripe is such a PITA to get to. It'* so bad with some sqdn'* I started calling VFMA-215 on the JFK in '00 VFMA-799! (A-799 is the code we put down on paper work showing the box had no faults and was never bad)
F-14 and A-6, best damm combo!
More rant-
They have to get refueled just to taxi to the cat .

An F/A-18A was used to “chase” an F-14D test flight. The F-14D was carrying four 2,000-pound bombs, two 280-gallon drop tanks, two Phoenix missiles and two Sidewinder air-to-air missiles. The chase airplane was in a relatively “clean” configuration with only a centerline fuel tank. At the end of each test flight, the chase airplane was several miles behind the test airplane when the chase airplane reached “bingo” fuel and had to return to base.
