Laptop woes
The light in my laptop went out! It'* not really a light, but the "thing" that lights up the screen. I can see there are things on the screen, but I can't see it very well. I don't know how to explain it......
It'* an HP, but that'* all I can remember right now....

i have a hp pavilion zt1135 laptop
See if there'* any switch or anything of the sort that gets pressed when you close the LCD. It might be stuck down, which turns off the backlight. My IBM Thinkpad has a little peg that pushes a small switch down when I close it.
Worth a shot. :?

You could also take the LCD out and make a projector display out of it. I remember reading awhile back in Popular Science about how to make an outdoor movie projector out of an LCD screen. They detailed pulling apart a brand new LCD tv, but the LCD in your laptop probably have more resolution than a tv does.
But yeah, make sure that it isn't a connection first. I also agree with the statement about laptop screens. They are $$$. The backlights are one of the first things to go.

ohh MAN that sucks...i recently was sitting on the couch and i was pulling something apart and put alot of effort into it and my left hand and he sharp piece of metal that was in it, SMACKED my LCD laptop screen....
now there is a 2 inch GASH just above where the START button is..... :?
so pissed...ohhhhh so pissed...my laptop is only 10 months old! it still works like brand new...but i sure am glad i didn't smack it mid screen!!! that would have SUCKED!!!!!!!!!!!

The LCD screen is typically backlite by two lamps in the better units. It IS a servicable part, I've done several hundred. It looks just like a mini flouresent lamp. If the units been dropped, hit, or bumped hard then bring it to a service facility, the lamp probably broke.
Some things I would suggest is tomake sure the backlight is not turned off, check the button as suggested if you have one, increase the brightness which usually involves holding down the blue Fn key and pressing the brightness up button (blue sun with an up arrow) key, and lastly try switching it to an extrenal dispaly and back again (another Fn + key combo).
If it still doesn't work then the problem is probably the inverter board.
And keep in mind, these are not inexpensive parts. I always suggest an extended warranty that covers against accidental drops with anything that you carry and costs more than you can afford to replace.
