Just wanted to know.. How old is everyone on this forum????
Looks like my nic suits me more than i like: 51. As for Age vs Knowledge debate.....Bogus is the proper term i think. It'* experience and attitude toward leaning that counts. I won't be dead till i quit learning everyday. I've met 60 somethings who are just suckin air and have been dead since their high School graduation, and 20 somethings who question and learn every second they're awake.
Book covers are very decieving.

I'm 19, and help dad with my car work whenever I can. However slowly, I'm learning. Though I'm NOT good with fuel injected engines...my car is carbureted anyway
Tractors and crafts are my areas of more expertise. I'm a farm girl
I agree, age has NOTHING to do with knowledge. I know a 50 year old who STILL doesn't think he needs to get his car checked out when the "service engine soon" light comes on. His poor Grand Am

30 and here for the fun and learning...know alot of basics but I leave the tough
stuff to my uncle who is a mechanic
But then retain what he did for future use!
I could tell ya what to expect from 4 kids...
My outlook on the age thing is ....a 14 yr old can be very textbook smart...but
in alot of cases....problem are not always textbook....and need to come from
years of experience.
I have seen the hardest to trouble shoot things be the easiest if you have just seen
it happen before.
But by no means would I doubt a 14yr old could out smart us on alot of things.
thats all.....back to your regularly scheduled programming

Im 19 years old, and still going. =)
Anyways, Id consider I know a good amount cars. Ive worked at a garage for over a year and decided to quit because it'* something I don't really like doing on a daily basis. But Ill agree with previous statement, age has nothing to do with knowledge. I learned form my uncle and with in the three years Ive been working on cars he now comes to me and asks questions. There is pretty much nothing on car I cant fix, and when it comes to driveability problems I have become really good. But if you dont want to take a kids advice, hell, its your loss.

I am 32, but dont take any advice from me, I just learned how to check muffler bearings and still trying to gauge the right amount of blinker fluid to use.
some of the best advice I have read here have been from the 17-25 ish crowd, they are really smart on these newer engines and PCM combos!
