LUMINA :?

I sold the car this summer and it blew up on the guy within day of buying it. Chances are he never even transfered the title.

Do I need to do anything?
Do I technically still own the car?

I really dont feel like calling him to find out what actually happened.

I know over here across the border if you don't own the car any more, there'* nothing you need to do... Just don't pay for the new tags once it'* time... That'* all I've done when I've sold vehicles.

Since it'* probably not on the road any more, I imagine you're ok. Just keep the bill of sale, if you have one.

I'd do something. I got a parking ticket after I sold the Honda. From Seaside, OR on July 4th. AFTER I sold it (I haven't been to Seaside in about 4 years).

I had to fax a copy of the title transfer (signed registration) and bill of sale to the Seaside PD showing the name and address of the new owner.

Then I contacted the DMV with the same info.

They promptly mailed registration paperwork to the new owner including a couple hundred bucks in fees.

Do something.

My dad got dinged in ~$170 in impound fees because the guy who bought our old SSE parked it somewhere he shouldn't have and the car got towed. In Ontario, a signed transfer of ownership doesn't cut it, it'* defined by whomever is still the actual registered owner regardless of any signed paperwork.

I agree with everyone here. Do something.

I sold a POS Cavalier to someone who never registered it, left it abandoned on the side of the highway, and 2 months later, I get a letter asking for hundreds of dollars for towing and storage fees. Thankfully, I had the bill of sales and all I had to do was sign it over to the impound yard so that they could junk it. Legally they couldnt with me listed as the owner. All fees were waived. Whew!!
