I'm about to tune up my father'* JD 318 lawn tractor. Anyone know how long this takes or have any tips?

Man, that oil was like molasses. Thick as hell.

Interestingly, the tune up kit from John Deere includes NGK TR5 V-Power plugs!!

The oil was so thick, it took at least 30 minutes to drain a quart and a half. It was actually sticky, and smelled like no oil I've ever come in contact with.

did you run the engine first to get the oil warm so it would flow better?

That oil must have had some serious hours on it. I hope you plan on changing it again soon( or sooner than the last time).

It'* my dads mower. It would barely run halfway into a 3 acre lawn. The oil was warm!! My dad had been putting 40 weight in it for a while now, and never changing the filter, I just found out.
