What a mess. Japan had always been very hush hush about its problems in general and this crisis just seems to have made that worse. Up to yesterday the death tolls kept being reported at under 1000. Now one Police Chief admits probably 10,000 dead just in his Province, and I read another report of 2,000 dead washing ashore in one local. Who knows how many were swept out to sea when the tsunami waves were going back out. One man was found hanging on the some wreckage 10 miles out to sea by a Navy ship. You look at photos and whole neighborhoods are under debris and mud. 3 nuclear plants with unspecified numbers of reactors are crippled and back up cooling systems down. They were pumping salt water into them in hopes of cooling them. This caused massive hydrogen gas buildups and three reactors that we know off have blown the containment buildings that housed them. Official reports try to downplay the radiation exposures but already people are showing signs of radiation sickness. That takes extreme exposures to happen this quickly. Now many of the reactors are exposed to the air, getting hot, and meltdowns are a matter of when, not if. Their government seems to be shellshock and unable to act in anyway responsible to get a handle on this tragedy. It'* just going to get way worse before it'* over.
