Hellooooo jack stands.

I had a jack fail a few months ago, no stands because I wasn't home, had a flat. The darn thing folded over and the truck dropped. Good thing I was able to get my hands on a floor jack. I had just pulled the tire off and turned to put it down when it fell.

In my career, I've had to rescue several people from under vehicles for the very same situation and none of them survived.

When I'm under my car it'* either on ramps or on jack stands, with the jack still in place. If a stand folds or fails, the jack should be able to keep the vehicle from crashing down and give me enough time to get the hell out from under it.

If it ever happens while I'm working underneath my car and the wheels are still on I'm safe lol. I so skinny I can fit under the car without it even being jacked up. I can't see the jackstands that I use ever failing though.

Always set up two points of support, one can fail, 2, that'* a different story.

man thats most def scary. thank goodness my dad has the business bcuz then i can just use one of the lifts to get access to the bottom of the car. i'm hella skinny but my car would crush me if it fell on me, even with its tires on bcuz the car sits sooo low & the body kit is lower then the actual frame of the car.

I've always been afraid of this. I never, ever trust jacks. Jackstands are a different story. Whenever I work on a car, I'll jack it up, then lower it on a jackstand, and I make sure there'* one on each side of the car to balance it and the hand brake is pulled. Hydraulic jacks simply have way too high of a tendancy to fail.

Wow....thats horrible. Sad thing is...this wont be the last time we hear something about this. Always remember safety first and safety in numbers......1 jack, 2 stands and if mine goes up, the wheels come off and placed on there sides and slid under the car.

Always been a fear of mine as well. What would make it even more grizzly is it compresses your lungs and you die a slow death unable to get enough air hoping for a rescuer. I use cinder blocks with a wood block in between. I have seen jack stands tip as well as jacks. I have seen them tip on gravel, and I have seen them punch through hot asphalt.
