Post up to five Q & As. Can be about anything (within reason of course), must be factual, and must be something that would generally be useless knowledge but cool to know nonetheless.
I'll start it off.
1) Battleships, no matter their country of origin, were mostly made of steel, but their decks were made from oak or teak, which made them vulnerable to bomb attacks (hence the massive AA arrays all around the deck). Why? Because if their decks were made of steel plating, they would shatter whenever their main turrets fired their rounds off. The wood deck actually acted as shock absorbers for their massive recoil.
2) What does the intials in WD-40 stand for? Water Displacing.
3)Who thought of the phrase "debugging"? The term "debugging" stemmed from the US Navy. A moth was found trapped between points at Relay # 70, Panel F, of the Mark II Aiken Relay Calculator while it was being tested at Harvard University, 9 September 1945. The operators affixed the moth to the computer log, with the entry: "First actual case of bug being found". They put out the word that they had "debugged" the machine, thus introducing the term "debugging a computer program".
This thread could be very educational.
