It's here! The G8 is here!!!!!!! (large pictures, 56k haha)
Actual production car! Was at the Woodward dream cruise.

A more powerful G8 GT delivers 362 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque thanks to a 6.0-liter V8. The basic G8 features a five-speed automatic with manual mode, while the GT version is offered with either a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual gearbox. Curb weight for the V6 model is 3,885 lbs, while the GT weighs just five pounds shy of 4,000. 18-inch wheels come standard, while 19-inch alloys can be ordered with the GT model. The sedan rides on GM's new Zeta rear-wheel-drive platform, which underpins the 2009 Camaro and the next-generation Impala, in addition to several other planned vehicles. G8 deliveries are expected to begin in August — a relatively short lead time made possible by some very effective badge engineering. Pricing has not been released but expect the GT to start in the low $30,000 range. |
NIIIIIIICE ME WANTS
|
wow, the real word pics. make it more appealing to me :D :D :D
|
That it Hot. Red Hot. Me like. Lotsssss
|
Interesting that the quote says deliveries in August. GM's website still shows delivery in early 2008 (unless they're talking August '08 ). Nice looking car but I look forward to seeing a complete list of available options and colours. I expect they'll release a GXP version at some point in the future. Personally, i'll likely wait for this. Since they D/C'd the Bonneville, this is the first car Pontiac (or GM for that matter) has come up with that I've had any interest in. I was thinking I was done with GM. The poor corporate attitude towards customer support really turned me off the past few years.
|
Ooooh  That looks better than the other pics I had seen of the concept. I actually like the looks of that. Now make it black 8) Please tell me Jason Statham will be behind the wheel of one of those for the next "Transporter" movie
|
I agree, the real world pics make it look much better. If I were in the market for one (which I would be if I had the $), I would definitely wait for the GXP, you know they are going to bring it.
|
I think that car has my name on it....
|
Thats it.... That IS going to be my next car...... ( about 5 years from now  )
G8 GT + 6.0 V8 + RWD + 6 speed manual = ME burnin the hell outta some tires  |
The chrome around the door handles is a nice touch! It sure beats the all chrome door handles you see.
I look forward to seeing those up close and personal. |
well, I should be in the market for a new car within the next year or so and I think my mind is made up.
|
niiice. thats really a hot car. but i still think the taillights are too small :?
|
Yup, if and when i can aford a "new" car i would buy one 8)
|
I like it better than the concepts also.
Just out of curiousity, why do you feel that there must or will be a GXP version? |
????? Dont see what calls for all the fanfare. The styling is ultra bland and looks like so many larger imports that have swept away individual identity curves and lines. From 50 feet away it would look like 20 others. The dash puts me to sleep and looks identical to the boorish Buick ones of today. It is also all but void of instrumentation, Come on,... this is the "GT" model and all you have is temp and gas gauge???? Sorry but all I can do is yawn when I look the pics over. Speaking of Buicks, at least they attemtped to make the same body appear sporty. And You can actually drive off the lot with one today.

i too dont understand what all the excitement is about.. sure, the V8 RWD is HUGE! But i think that GM missed again on the styling.. the taillights are horrendous, and the rest of the car is rather bland. The Concept looked 100x better
|
Well, far as the taillights. i hated the ones on my SE also. and my brother didn;t like the ones on his jeep... You mod, thats how you can like it. :)
No one will ever make a car that all of us will all like. ;) |
I personally love the tails.
If the y made a GXP Torrnet, they'll make this. They almost always make a faster version shortly after the release of a new model. |

I'm with Toasty and Venom, I probably would not do a double take if I saw it driving down the highway...
|
Yea i know, i liked that two tone :(
|
While I agree with toast and venom that it's not as exciting as the concept, I personally am more excited about RWD and 6 spd in a 4 door. As with many of the cars that have come out different than the concept, people somethwhere will probably make a kit that resembles the concept, at which time it will be bought if I happen to own one of these.
You can also see the 6 spd interior, the NAV, and Driver information centers in this: http://www.pontiac.com/g8/ So it will have extra gauge info, just not as a gauge. |
I would like mine with Nav please,

I hope there will be a huge aftermarket for it. GM is making it tough for me to decide what to get next once the Aurora gets "glass boxed"
I think its great. |
Not to get off topic Jim, but what does "glass boxed" mean?
As to the styling comments, I'll agree that it doesn't jump out or shout at you, and I do really prefer the styling of the '96-99's followed by the 2000-2005's. However, it does follow the general styling clues of the G5 and G6 that are already here, so it's pretty much as I expected. No styling risks were taken, which is lamentable and somewhat typical of GM, with the possible exception of the current Cadillac line. I do expect that this will be a solid dependable vehicle with a fair amount of excitement under the hood, relatively speaking of course. We should all probably keep in mind that the G8 line is not intended to specifically be a performance vehicle. |
Honestly I like the outside, but I probably will NEVER own a newer vehicle due to the blah-ness of the interiors. I don't like really any new car's interior. Alot of them look generic and cheap.
|
customize and modify :D
|
I'm not feeling the dash either, esp in the area around the radio and climate controls. Which leads me to Where are the readouts for those? In that recessed area above the cd player?
|
NO HUD FTL
NO NAV FTL Styling FTL but waiting on the GXP 6.0 6Sp RWD FTW also herd GXP 6.0 6sp AWD FTL. over all I'm waiting on the GX |
Guys, guys....
Please note that this is NOT a fully loaded GT. It was noted on the site that it was a Base GT, therefore no ECC, Nav, etc, and some other goodies mentioned. |
The 2005 Bonneville is the first brand new car I ever owned. Anyway I took such a bath at trade in that I will never ever buy a brand new GM product again. In a few years I might be in the used car market for a 2 year old G8. I was not impressed with my GXPs weak engine perfomance so I hope the G8s is much better.
|
I will have one after I build a 12 second ssei. could be a while.
|
Not to get off topic Jim, but what does "glass boxed" mean? But anyway, the G8 (top of the line) with some mods can be a legit SRT killer. Finally. |
Ok, the Lucerne? C'mon, I've had one for a week, and it isn't sporty.. :?
The Performance? It's gonna be around an 04 GTO in performance. It's not exactly dragging the trunk around. This is a moderate update to the commodore chassis. I wonder how it'll stack up against the new CTS... Hell the V6 would be fun enough on it's own from the specs. The interior is much higher quality too since it was designed and built overseas, instead of to the penny like they are in GM's US designs. The lucerne I had was better than previous H bodies, but still had a ways to go to be considered good for a $30k car.. Aftermarket is already here too... Engine is of the Gen IV architecture, so that's easy as pie to make power from, and have parts for. As i've said before, i'd glady give up (what i consider somewhat gimmicky) a HUD for the chassis/powertrain that car has, not even considering the interior appointments (huge upgrade from the last GP/Bonne's IMO. |

I like the fact that it's aggressive, yet subtle. It will be fun to own one some day and blow peoples' doors off when they least expect it. Similar mindset to driving a modified Bonneville. |

HUD and NAV will not be on or in this car they do not have those options down under.
and from here that dash looks like an installers nightmare. |

I agree on the tails, I don't like them too much at all. The interior, though simple and "common" or European-looking, is much better quality (I'm assuming). And it doesn't LOOK cheap either like many GM interiors always have. It's pretty much like a BMW or an Audi in the styling department, and it was done most definitely on purpose to appeal to those who would rather by a BMW or an Audi. IMO the new Audi A8 is GORGEOUS even though the design is very simple. BMWs have always been very simple too. Only recently have they become a little more stylized. I think the G8 will appeal to a lot of people. It's sporty enough for those who like something sporty, yet simple enough for someone who doesn't want to stick out. I think it would have been a bad idea to make the G8 ultra-stylized and aggressive. |
