I played with one last night since Darren (Phoenix) has one. It does have the "cool" factor. A phone like this is not for everyone......but for the one who wants the coolest phone it currently can't be topped. I especially like the scrolling and the screen. I haven't seen a phone yet with wifi like the iPhone. Darren tapped into my wifi last night to surf, saving on his data charges.

I too only need a phone to "phone" with or sms, but the iPhone has created a lot of hype in the industry, more than any other phone I've seen, and that'* good for me, since I sell phones, and will be selling the iPhone when Rogers introduces it to Canada in October!

It does the internet better than any standard non-pda smartphone has until this point. Frankly if you like the controls, it'* pretty good, it does just about everything, a lot of intuitive controls. Is it an iPod relacement? No, but you could definetly get enough of your playlists on there to leave the iPod in your car, etc all the time.

Windows mobile isn't a bad platform, but navigation is giong to be as fast as the iPhone for reasons, and you'll need the stylus. Just like the iPod brought a powerful, but easy to use mp3 player to the masses, the iPhone is bringing a PDA-phone to the average consumer, in a simple yet powerful package.

No matter how you slice it, it does a very good job of encorporating a lot of tasks into a phone, if you have a use for the tasks by all means go for it. I would however wait for a new model that uses Cingular'* high speed access, or until it'* released for other carriers.

If they spend 200-300 on an iPod (which they do) then the $500 or $600 for an iPhone isn't too hard to stretch. My point was more about the functions and power of the PDA phone being put in the average consumer'* hands.

Windows mobile is not for everyone.

They're also being "cool" buying it.

Exactly. It'* basically the price of a video iPod plus your typical smartphone. Sure $500 too $600 isn't cheap, but I'm sure most people use plastic to buy them anyway.

I actually like the concept of the Iphone since it boasts so many features it replaces many other things in one unit but I would have to try it for a week first before commiting to a purchase. Main concern I have big hands and would that interfere with day to day use etc.
