It really must have been abused! My brother had a 305 in his 1988 C1500 and it had almost 500,000 miles on the original motor. :lol: That thing was tired, but it still maintained 11 lbs. of oil pressure. :lol: My 1997 with the 305 only has 135K, but runs very well (it's the only decent thing on that truck :x ).

Still have to replace that *&^% fuel pump. I just had to fill the gas tank a couple of days ago too didn't I. :(

Just out of curiosity, does your 305 leak oil? Almost every one I've seen leaks oil out either out the rear main or the intake.

I know the intake leak is fixed by putting a sealant on the threads of the bolts that it leaks by. I found out on my 350 that the bolts actually penetrate too deep. The GM dealer wouldn't tell me that, but an old friend did.

Nope. Not a leaker. Dry as a bone underneath.

The tranny used to (thanks to a hairline crack in the case), but that's dry now too.

Before I called a tow truck, I went out to see if it would start. It flashed right up, so I drove it to within 3 miles of the shop before it quit again. AAA picked up the tow charges because I was stuck on the highway :)

Got a loaner from the shop, a G5. I tried for a GP but not a chance. :lol:


Got me thinking though, it might be the ignition modual since it has only quit after the truck has been warmed up completly. But then again, it did fire up momentarily after smacking the gas tank with a rubber mallet. :?: :?:

turns out that it was not the fuel pump at all. Seems that there was this corroded wire going to the ignition modual. I guess when things were swapped around it got disturbed (perturbed?).

Bottom line........ it's fixed. Didn't cost me anything except some lost sleep and agrivation and proved that Wilwren is right when he says "check for corrosion on the ground bus" (or something like that :lol: )

Added bonus........... they checked the fuel pump out and told me that it seems to be in perfect working order, should be good for many miles yet.
