so heres my thought.

you know how when you buy a car, you have to have insurance? that way, if you get into an accident and itll be fixed for whatever your deductable is, basically. well, what about when stuff just breaks down? theres no $250 deductable when your engine throws a rod or seizes.

what if there were?

what if, when your transmission goes south, there was insurance on it?

well, lets think about this. its just not feasible for any company to say "abuse the car however you want, well fix it when something breaks." that much is obvious. but what would it take? how about, "pay us $XX.XX a month, and bring your car to us for any and all routine maintenance (free of charge, because were charging you per month), and when something breaks, we'll fix it. ASSUMING that youve brought it to us for all routine maintenance." because they could tell if you hadnt brought it to them, theyd have it on file. and they could have the fine print that says youre no longer insured if you take it anywhere else for any maintenance. and if it were a dealer offering this service, they could offer it on new cars only (so theres no ifs about prior ownership) and have no affiliation with the car company (that way GM or whatever isnt looking at looking crappy if the stealership screws up). but if a dealership offered this service, thered be very little paperwork and delays - as its all internal. theres no "wait for the other guys insurance to pay you" because theres only one party - them.

so, punch holes all through it. id get this service though (on say, my next car). they tell you when you need to get stuff done and they do it for no out-of-pocket expenses. and you dont have the "what-if" hanging over your shoulder.

that would be a pretty nice thing

well, couldnt you theoretically take out insurance on say your transmission? cuz as far as i know you can have insurance on anything you want as long as youre willing to pay, like how athletes take out policies on their knees in case the get hurt...

You want insurance that'* a small fee every month?

Just do regular maintenance preferably by youself..

A PCV here, a fuel filter there, will go a long ways...
