In the US, is a chocolate malt sort of like a milkshake?

A chocolate malt is a Chocolate milkshake, with malt powder added. Yummy.

I think the difference between a malt and a milkshake is the consistency. I worked at a Haagen Dazs at college and we had milkshakes and malts. The milkshakes were thicker. I don't remember what else if anything was different though. :?
