Default I know more than the service manager...

I was at the Buick/Cadillac dealership today to *try* and get some work done on my CTS when an older gentlemen was talking to the service manager. He had brought in his 03 LeSabre. The trouble he was having was that his cigarette lighter wasn't working. The service manager told him that the switch was actually working fine and that the problem was probably in the ignition switch. The old man setup an appointment and got ready to leave. Over hearing the situation, I pulled the older gentlement aside and told him I could fix his problem in five minutes and asked him to pop the hood. He did so, and I showed him that there were two fuse positions in the underhood fuse block. One allowed the cigarette lighter only to be on with the ignition switch, the other, allows it to be on at all times. He went back to the service manager and canceled his appointment telling him "this young man just fixed my problem. Shame on you for trying to rip me off." I consider it my good deed of the day.

Best of luck when YOUR car is in for service.

Meanwhile, I like it.

This was just after I was told my rear differential would not be covered under the dealership'* warranty because I was THIRTY MILES over. This is a $3,000 part. It'* not like a differential goes out in a few miles of driving, I'm sure it was going bad before I bought the car and it just now started to make noise.

I believe the rear diff is a known problem with the 2003 to 2004 CTS. I have a bud that got rid of his because the dealer could not fix the problem. He went through 3 rear ends befor he traded it in.

hmm, I am guessing that the Bonneville is the same way??? Not really a big deal, but the lighter only works for about five minutes after the ignition is off in the '03. It would be nice to have it work all the time for charging our phones etc...

What fuse is it?

Any dealer can fudge it enough to make that work, it'* free money for them under warranty work. He earned what you did.

Hell I was offered the >12k extended warranty when i bought my GTI @ 12130...
