A trick I taught my daughter to use in this situation, again, to establish herself with a new team. Take a penalty.

Since she was a defenseman, if the situation allowed, the recommended move was to follow through on a puck sweep, so that she took the guys feet out from under him. Done right, it was seen as a simple follow-through during a tangle. Sometimes, however it resulted in a foul for her. This again wasn't always bad, as it established the fact that she wasn't to be played with. She had to be respected or they'd pay the price.

Kinda dirty pool, but it seemed necessary at the time.

Haaaaay. Wait a minute...I think you're making this up, Lash. I may be slow, but I know you ain't got no ice in Floridia. You've been watching "Slap Shot" again, haven't you...

:P :P :P

Lol!

We lived in Wixom, MI from '95-99, while the kids were in high school. My daughter stayed there to attend CMU and just moved to Moses Lake, Washington in April this year.

And there IS TOO ice in Floridaniania!!! What do you think I use in my Scotch? :D

Plus, there are a few ice rinks where there are ice hockey teams, just not too many. My kids actually started by playing roller hockey in Florida.

Most of the guys I knew who played hockey when I was in High school were mean and nasty. They would enjoy hurting males or females. Whatever it takes to win the game. The better the player, the harder they would try to take them "out".
Hate to say it but she is in for a rough time. Hope she does well and you can stand the bruises. Is your medical and dental plan fully covered?

Oh, I know, things are different now. That was a long time ago.

I'm young and my experiences in ice and roller hockey are similar. My brother lost a tooth, I've ruined my knees, broken many bones, and had bruises I thought would never go away. Still, I wouldn't do anything different, it was a great time. No one was really out to hurt people in my leagues.

See now, reading everyone's responses is the exact reason I don't play ice hockey. Cause I'd knock you right the fuck out. I used to play roller hockey...and umm...that was like bigfoot going to a teaparty. I mean....I could do it, but umm, twas hard not breaking rules and umm...nevermind.

I think she'll do fine if shes not afraid. If she is at ALL, thats the beginning of the end..fear escalates.

But seriously, if shes adamant about it, those boys are about to get SERIOUSLY pwned by a girl.

I don't know much about hockey, but I used to play rugby with a group of guys on the OSU campus, and the worst hurting I ever took was a bruised kidney from the knee of one of the guys girlfriends...

When I was in football in jr high I had to go up against a girl on the offensive line.
