I Have Lost My Mind

Now I know a lot of you think this happened awhile ago, but this time I am serious. I can't believe I even agreed to do what I agreed to last night............................................. ...........................Get your minds out of the gutter............................................ .................................................. .................................................. .........................O'Neil and I agreed to allow Jessica to start playing hockey with the boys. Not just once in a while, all season long! What was I thinking!!!!! Some of these boys are over six feet tall! They are huge, and they can skate, and they body check...........Someone stop me!!!!

harofreak00 09-14-2007 11:11 AM

just let her hair hang out from the helmet...

what kinda guy is gonna check a girl into the boards? :D

lash 09-14-2007 11:12 AM

I understand completely! My daughter played hockey on mixed teams in Michigan for years, until she went to college. It can be a bit tough and she'll have to establish herself as a player that bites back or she'll be run over.

My daughter had to make a few hard checks and take a few penalties to establish her place and before she gained respect on the ice. Before that, the guys were nice to her off the ice, but would just skate all over her on the ice.

Just be prepared for some large bruises every once in a while (if not every game).

This is gonna be funny watching her kick their :booty:

She can do it. It will toughen her up a bit quicker but she can handle it. ;)

The other day my son was spotting me with his hands up as I was playfully going through the boxing jabs. I hit his right hand with my left- jab, jab, jab and then did a light follow through with the right one and knocked him a few steps back. He said "MOTHER!!" and I had to laugh. I said "Hmph! I still got it after all these years." :D

Don't mess w/Tracy---> :pow:

I will admit to enjoying it, maybe a bit too much, when my daughter would rob some hot shot forward or wing and take off and pass it. The first time she did it to a new guy, it would register as a shock to him.

She met her now husband while playing.

PontiacMom 09-14-2007 01:16 PM

Well, last night she got hit, and hit hard. She got the wind knocked out of her. She is not used to being hit, they don't hit in ladies hockey. I know this toughen her up, but I don't know if I can watch.

She will not be able to play in any away tournaments, just home games. It is far to dangerous. For some reason the other teams will go after the girls on the ice. The last time a girl played for the boys in away situation, she was sent to the hospital, with a concussion, she had to quit playing. So they will no longer allow girls to play away games. I have no problem with that. This is just to improve her skills, and if she is going to play the game, she is going to play it right.

Last night she took on a boy who is 6 foot tall, he of course got around her, but she made him work for it

GonneVille 09-14-2007 01:18 PM

Poor bastards....they are so gonna get :owned: by a girl...

A trick I taught my daughter to use in this situation, again, to establish herself with a new team. Take a penalty.

Since she was a defenseman, if the situation allowed, the recommended move was to follow through on a puck sweep, so that she took the guys feet out from under him. Done right, it was seen as a simple follow-through during a tangle. Sometimes, however it resulted in a foul for her. This again wasn't always bad, as it established the fact that she wasn't to be played with. She had to be respected or they'd pay the price.

Kinda dirty pool, but it seemed necessary at the time.

zuper8 09-14-2007 01:55 PM

that is totally awesome, tell her to show 'em up!!

Haaaaay. Wait a minute...I think you're making this up, Lash. I may be slow, but I know you ain't got no ice in Floridia. You've been watching "Slap Shot" again, haven't you...

:P :P :P

lash 09-14-2007 03:29 PM

Lol!

We lived in Wixom, MI from '95-99, while the kids were in high school. My daughter stayed there to attend CMU and just moved to Moses Lake, Washington in April this year.

And there IS TOO ice in Floridaniania!!! What do you think I use in my Scotch? :D

Plus, there are a few ice rinks where there are ice hockey teams, just not too many. My kids actually started by playing roller hockey in Florida.

Most of the guys I knew who played hockey when I was in High school were mean and nasty. They would enjoy hurting males or females. Whatever it takes to win the game. The better the player, the harder they would try to take them "out".
Hate to say it but she is in for a rough time. Hope she does well and you can stand the bruises. Is your medical and dental plan fully covered?

Oh, I know, things are different now. That was a long time ago.

I'm young and my experiences in ice and roller hockey are similar. My brother lost a tooth, I've ruined my knees, broken many bones, and had bruises I thought would never go away. Still, I wouldn't do anything different, it was a great time. No one was really out to hurt people in my leagues.

wjcollier07 09-15-2007 07:07 AM

See now, reading everyone's responses is the exact reason I don't play ice hockey. Cause I'd knock you right the fuck out. I used to play roller hockey...and umm...that was like bigfoot going to a teaparty. I mean....I could do it, but umm, twas hard not breaking rules and umm...nevermind.

I think she'll do fine if shes not afraid. If she is at ALL, thats the beginning of the end..fear escalates.

But seriously, if shes adamant about it, those boys are about to get SERIOUSLY pwned by a girl.

GonneVille 09-16-2007 12:34 AM

I don't know much about hockey, but I used to play rugby with a group of guys on the OSU campus, and the worst hurting I ever took was a bruised kidney from the knee of one of the guys girlfriends...

fantastic88 09-16-2007 11:32 PM

When I was in football in jr high I had to go up against a girl on the offensive line.

Ya, I bet she had everything a boy would ever want..............

Hairy legs and muscles.

So how did you stand up to that butch :?:

Ooops.... no offence to Jessica. She is definitely no butch. ;)

fantastic88 09-16-2007 11:48 PM

Actually she wasn't that butch from what I can remember. It was funny though cause you hit the opponent in the chest usually. So with her being a girl I didn't know how to go about that, so I just ended up standing in her way while she kept hitting as fast and hard as possible.

You fool :!: You missed your opportunity for a free feel.

Usually you just nail them just below the stomach. They don't make jock straps for girls.

.....ohhhh that's just not right.

Oh trust me, in this school district I would have been expelled if I tried anything. And I would of had to put forth a good effort to get under the shoulder pads. They do go below the chest.
