well, their tool box anyway. i have the 140 (ish) piece tool set. the box it comes in is the black folding, with the 1/4 inch section on the top. i love the tools. held up very well so far. but the damn top 1/4 in section has a HORRIBLE design for a latch. it randomnly opens, and dumps 1/4in sockets and bits all over the place . i was at the JY over the weekend getting some trim pieces for the se. when out of the blue, i go to close my box, and CRASH, sockets everywhere. that was the last straw. i am goin to search for a better solution. any suggestions?

I got the same box, and I know what you mean. I got the 165? piece set. I solved mine by screwing a screw in right above the latch, and remove it when I need to get in there.

Folding sets are nice for the person that uses the tools once or twice a month.

Get yourself a small 3 or 4 drawer metal toobox, reorganize your tools, and use that. Ditch the plastic.

i know i can find those metal strip things to keep the sockets organized, but is there anything out there to keep the combo wrenches together?

Most Cman boxes suck, period. Snap-On, Matco, Mac, Cornwell are your best bet(but not cheap). They will last a lifetime and you'll never have to cuss at them. For sockets, use Hansen Trays, for wrenches you could use a fabric wrench roll, hang them on your pegboard, or just use the rack provided.

Anytime I get one of those cases, the first thing I do is buy some rails and throw the case out.

If you like the organization of the original case, keep it. Just rip the plastic tabs off the locking bit, and replace them with some metal latches. You can cut the molded-in hinges off and replace them with piano hinges, too.

I didn't read the original post very well. I always throw out the junky case my tools come in. I only keep it if they are designated to be portable for JY runs and the like. Otherwise, the case gets tossed in favor of much better organization in my actual box.

I've got the 137 piece set. It'* set up the same way, but I have troubles opening the 1/4" side. Probably cuz I usually have gloves on, but it has let go on me a few times spilling everything.

I have a wrench caddy that keeps them in place its made by snap on, another old method is a roll up pouch with multi pockets.

Saw a really nice roll away at costco the other day, wrinkle finish paint, ball bearing door slides, fairly sold too and only $140.
