Besides Mother Nature extending winter through April this year, there is always the added treat of taxes.

$1260 due.

Me wants beer.

The IRS tried to tell me I owed $1700 in back taxes due to some stock options I cashed in. Luckily, I had the paperwork to prove they could get bent...

I'm only getting about $600 total back this year, though. I thought home ownership was supposed to help you rake in the refunds....

Maybe if you can claim rental income, or running a business out of your home. Then maybe. Getting $600. back is better than paying $1,700. I always say.

Hopefully next year (this year?) we'll be able to write off some home improvement stuff...

Nope. Basically nothing you do to YOUR house is deductible except some enegery conserving upgrades.

Now if you had rental property, then just about everything is.
