I Got My Rifle
Best Christmas gift ever recieved. A Winchester 30-30 cal rifle. I've never used a gun before other than my pallet rifle. Anyone go out to the range or hunt? I can't wait to go out to the range in spring.

88, I've got a few. Including a 30-30. The 250yd limit mentioned earlier is a bit too far. Keep it at 100yds max with iron sights. Scopes are tough on the Winchesters, since they're a top-ejector (assuming a lever-gun?).
Love mine to death, but there'* not enough energy left at 150yds to really count on it. The cool thing is that it makes you really HUNT. You MUST stalk and get close.
Mine is a 1967 Canadian Centennial Commemorative edition with the octagon barrel and saddle ring. Beautiful piece.

I forgot to mention that the gun is bran new. I dunno if that makes any difference. I suppose they haven't changed firing distance that much though the years?
Sweet! Everytime I backpack I try to get as close to dear as possible. The bucks around here really hold thier ground. Can get around 60 or so yards of em.

And about doing some clay shooting...I'm game. I love it, my 870 Express Super Mag loves it too...

Why wait 'til spring?
There'* no reason you can't shoot now. You'll have the range to yourself. I love to shoot in the winter. The iron sights and inexperience with a centerfire rifle will keep your shooting within 100 yards for a while.
Just take good ear and eye protection and dress for the cilmate.
Have fun.

I hunt in some brush, so when I go with my 30-30 I can sit in one place.
I also have a 308 sniper rifle, and SKS, two 22s, a 22 mag, a 20 guage, a double barrel 16 guage, a double barrel 12 guage, and a few more. I also have about 50 knives. This is why I don't drink. lol
