Default I feel like a tool....

I've seen others vent frustrations in the Lounge, so here'* mine... :?

Today was a good friend'* wedding. And, as most of everyone in the upper midwest knows, today was not a very good day, weather wise... So anyways, my friend'* wedding was about an hour'* drive from here, where he lives. I was going to drive myself, and 2 other friends to the wedding and then the reception afterwards.

I got up today to see what the weather people have been predicting, a sheet of ice coating everything. I was worried last night about the weather causing problems. So I just hoped for the best.

I called the friend I was going with and he didn't know if we should go either, as by now it was snowing really hard and getting bad out. So I said, I'll pick him up and see how the roads are in town, before driving out in the country.

As I drove to his place, a full size tour bus pulls out in front of me from an intersection. I tapped on the brakes and went sliding. If it wasn't for anti-lock brakes, I'd be posting pictures of my smashed car, and a damaged tour bus.

Anyways, that was enough for me. I called my friends that were getting the ride from me and told him *bleep* this, I'm not driving all that way, and told him what happened. I mentioned that I can't even imagine how bad the roads will be later tonight after the reception. He understood, and said he wasn't going to go either then (by driving himself).

So now, my newly wed friend is getting to the reception hall wondering where in the hell we are......

Like I said..... I feel like a tool...

Well, I wouldn't worry too much about it. You tried and you couldn't do it. That'* all she wrote.

if those are true friends, they will understand why you couldn't make it. Just call them tomorrow. After almost sliding into a bus, I wouldn't make the trip up there either.

Don't feel bad. If they're true friends, they'll understand.
I'm sure they would have rather had you safe than possibly losing a friend

Funny thing was, that thought flashed in my mind as I slid towards, and finally around the bus. I said, oh great, I'm next......

But, anyways, thanks guys, the comments do help.

I'm sure he'll understand. Especially if I buy him a nice wedding present...

Sorry you should feel like a tool.

If you are a real freind(like a brother friend) of his you should have been there for his wedding.

tell me you never drove in bad weather before?

what would you feel like if he missed your wedding?

sorry dude. your bad. not the weathers fault.

Well, after doing some thinking, I'd have to disagree. I still stand by my decision, even though I don't like that I missed it. He actually had family members that decided not to go due to the weather. He had also told me that if it was bad enough, that he would understand us not showing up.

Also remember, that I wasn't IN the actual wedding, just a watcher (as were the people going with me). So that shows I'm not like a brother to him. We're good friends, but I've only known him for about 2 years. The other guy that was going is just as close of a friend as I am, and he decided not to drive himself.

I cannot recall driving that far of a distance in this bad of weather. If my wedding was today, and he didn't make it, I'd totally understand. Well, to be honest, I wouldn't even get married in the winter for just this reason.

Besides, I actually put rubber on the street to see how bad it was before saying no, I was actually on my way before I decided it was too sloppy... I didn't just look outside and say it looked too bad to go...

Maybe I'm not as good of a friend as you are to yours, Jim...?
