I might be biased etc...but you asked and brutally honest how I roll.
SE = Slow Edition
SLE = SLow Editiion (JimmyFloyd credited for walking over to one at a meet and saying "Hey they spelled SLowE wrong")
SSE = Still Slow Edition
SSEi = I forget..
GXP = Gimpy X Poop

According to a site I stumbled upon one day, a bunch of people called up Pontiac and apparently that'* the only trim level designation that actually means anything, the rest are just letters.
May or may not be true
And now for my takes:
SE = standard edition
SSE = super standard edition
SSEi = super sexy engine inside

See, in my mind, it goes something like this...
SE=Sport Edition
SLE=Sport Luxury Edition
SSE=Super Sport Edition
SSEi=Super Sport Edition intensified (lame, I know)
GXP=Given Extra Power
The only reason I say that they are Sport and Super Sport is because I remembered that they were the better trims pre-1992. And my GXP is strangely similar to Steve'*, strange.
