Default huge blower

Well I started my new job on Tuesday and let me say it is great. I get to work around locomotives all day as they rebuild them.

I was outside near shipping/receiving ( my current position, but was told today to expect some electrical work), and what do I spot, but a HUGE blower. At first I had to do a second take. Sure enough some of the engines have turbo and some are blown. It is about the size of a 3800 engine, it'* awesome.

The engines in those things are HUGE. I can't wait to get going on electrical and possibly change positions within the company, lol.

I do not have any pictures of the blower but will ask if I am allowed to take a picture. I am pretty sure they have a policy agains pictures being taken at work, but you never know.

As soon as I seen it I wanted to take pictures, but without a camera, it makes it a bit tough. I might try and snap a picture with my cell phone, even though we aren't supposed to have those either, lol.

I wouldn't put my job in jeapordy over a blower pic. Ask first and if the answer is NO i'm sure you can find one on the net just by googling the model #.

I used to have a coworker that would help herself to office supplies every new school year. She lost her great job over $10 in pens & pencils.

Do you work for GE or EMD (Formely GM EMD)? Both of their 4 cycle diesels are hush/hush and they frown upon public pictures of their componentry because they are so competitive with one another. So I would highly recommend NOT posting pictures. I just so happen to work for GE during the day. I'm an EMD fan personally, but GE signs my paychecks, so...

You can post pictures of either EMD'* "H" motor, or GE'* GEEVO'* (Evolution Series) engines they post on their site, but not what you take personally!!

Also, no diesel/electric locomotive in service by a road carrier (UP, BNSF, etc) has a supercharged locomotive. All are turbocharged V12'* and V16'*.

Come to think of it, I've never heard of any diesel being supercharged, only turbo'd.

Here is a link to our Evo series engine. The big thing up in the left corner of the picture is the turbo...

Well the blower was gone today when I was gonna take a picture. As for a blower being on the motor, well we just shipped out a 16 cylinder engine that had not one but 2 blowers on it. If I recall that engine was called a 645E cause each piston puts out 645 cu/in, so you do the math. I was gonna snap a pic of the engine on the trailer but too many people around and again I haven't even been there a week yet. Oh yeah this engine had over 2 millions MILES on it. That one engine weighed in at about 18 tonnes.

EDIT:

Here is a picture of the engine,

Pretty close anyhow
