Ok, I downloded the two. But upon installing VM, I got a pop up saying it might not play well with XP.... Whats the deal? I reversed the installation for the moment.

I use Sun Virtualbox and it works amazing and it'* easy to use.

After install, make a virtual hdd and just point the software to the Ubuntu ISO that you download.

Do I need to extract the Linux before I chose it or leave it compressed in the file I downloaded?

Hopefully you downloaded an ISO, in which case do not decompress it. SVB will mount it just like a cdrom drive.

I downloaded the link given and placed it on my desktop, it says it'* an ISO 9660 Joliet archive file.

Jon, the link you provided gave me the same file Stelth'* link did, and I repeat, my XP says "not compatible". So WTH???? Frustrated and have alot of fate of several forums and web sites on this computer. Thinking its not a good idea.

open virtual Box and click on the storage on the right, Mount the image there and then start the machine

it will install the image and install it
