I would say you have proved Ted Stevens wrong, your internet IS a big truck.
That just mean that I can bench race you on the internet and win, even though you will win at the track lol

I have that same "problem" with Comcast. I'm supposed to have 15, and I get 25. I was talking to a representative one day and this got brought up. They told me that they have no way of limiting bandwidth in our area. Then they tried to tell me my modem was bad and I needed a new one... wait a minute... I'll keep mine :P

When I was upgrading to DVRs I asked the *** guys why my internet is so much higher than what I pay. They said the same thing, that they really can't limit speed in my area.

Interesting.

Elmira to Rochester is about 100 miles...

Elmira to Secaucus, NJ is about 150 miles.

Yet I get a faster speed.

Red Bank, NJ 200 miles away

Every location, every pipeline, every ISP is going to give different results. Even the weather will have an effect on bandwidth. This includes solar flares.

Your ping goes up faster with distance, and ping has alot to with how fast you can browse the internet.

Conditions must be very dependent on alot of things. My DSL is blazing here in the backwoods of PA tonight. My numbers must be affected by how many crows are hanging on the old lines going to the big city.
