Default how do i secure my wireless network?

o.k i just switched from rcn cable and internet to verizon.

so sadly i went from 10 megs to only 7 megs with verizon but rcn is a big headache and a bunch or crooks.. anyway how do i put a password on my wireless internet so no one can use my wireless signal.? thanks

if you don't have alot of extra machines that need access you can always do a wireless mac filter

I'm a fan of using mac filtering.

its pretty much impossible to crack.

uhm... there'* a tiny exe file called macmakeup.exe... all i have to do is connect to the network (which mac filtering allows you to do... it just doesnt allow connectivity)
then i can open a network sniffer, find your MAC address and change mine to what yours was.

presto, im in. Its really not very hard.
i would use a combination of WPA security, Mac filtering, along with not broadcasting the SSID

MOST situations don't call for extreme measures. Nothing is uncrackable. Not broadcasting and either a mac filter or wpa will keep you out of casual preying eyes

For users like us WEP is fine. Wpa if you are really concerned.
