Makes sense to me. I don't know why people would really care if this guy was close to death or in serious danger 100% of the time. I've seen a couple episodes and to me it does seem like a "how-to" show on surviving in the wild. Whether he spent a night in a hotel or not doesn't mean that the information and tips they provide the audience with on surviving in the wild is not valid.
Reality TV is massively edited. There'* so much of it that isn't "real."

yeah but i guess i just never thought of it that way. I wanted to believe he was actually out there trying to survive. but hes still bad ***... i mean who pee'* in a canister and then dumps it over himself to keep cool.
Didn't he DRINK his own urine?
Now imagine...he probably really was not close to dehydration and drank it just to show what people may have to do in a real situation. I'd give him more props for drinking it in that case than if he really had to.

Yes he did drink his own urine, and studies have said doing so is negligible, because it dehydrates you at the same time. He does stuff to show you how to survive, not to show he can. He'* walked into quicksand and sink holes knowingly, becauuse there'* only one way to show people to get out.
