Help in posting Avatar

I have tried to upload a picture as my avatar and it keeps telling me the image must be less than 16kb, how do you make a picture smaller in kb'*? Scott

Reduce the number of colors used.

Pixels (length x width of the image) will also reduce the file size. Most images 100x80 pixels will be less then 16
