Default Help. How to get Temp.plates in FL?

Hi
I need help on some questions about temporary license plates in Florida. :?:
I bought a 76 Electra up in Missouri this summer and drove around for a month, this car is now stored in Pompano Beach FL.
Up in Missouri the dealer fixed me the temp plates.
But I November I am going over to Fl again and I need temporary plates again. I live in Norway.
What kind of rules are there to get these plates in FL.
I suppose I need insurance on the car to get it. I have the title written in my name.
Is there anybody out there that has any answers on these questions?
I will appreciate any help about this.

well if you have the title in your name i think you will have to get plates for it. and depending on the location in florida you might have to get echeck on it. i dont know how many years back it goes. im thinking only 20. but as far as i remember once you have the title in your name all you can get is plates. but since you are coming from outa country it might be diff.

Hi
And thanks for the input. What’* a echeck , is it a technical check at shop?
That shouldn’t be any problem, since the car is in very good shape.
Regarding” title in my name”, I wrote my name on the back of the title.
But if I get plates on it, do I have to pay any tax, regarding the amount I gave for the car.
I only hope it not will be to difficult to get any kind of plates on this car, since I want to drive my family around Florida instead of using our vacation at getting this car licensed. :(

Anybody else who knows.

echeck is the emissions (sp*) and tax would go off how much you gave for the car.

but i know theres a plate/tag you can get for your car since you will only be driving it around for a few weeks and you are from outa country.

wish ya luck and enjoy your vacation

From what I know, if you can't get temporary plates for your trip, you might have to apply for a new title and register the car. This would require insurance on the vehicle too. The nice thing, is they should be able to give you the temp plates while in the process so you can still drive around. From my DMV experience, you fill out the required forms, show up one day and take care of that with them, and they give you a temp inspection, temp registration, and plates. The real registration will be mailed to you and the inspection will need to be done within 10 days I think. Now, this is what I had to do here in NY for my 93 SSEi. Not sure if florida is different, but I would read up on the website and maybe call a couple of the numbers.

Hi
And thanks for the answers.
On a another messesage board I am a member of, I got this answer.

The local dealer told me that all you had to do was go to a local DMV (Department of motor vehicles) and for a small fee they will issue a temp plate. And yes you will need insurance as well.
So I will try to call a local DMV in Ft. Lauderdale-Pompano Beach area and check it out. I have found some phone numbers on the web.

I talked with DMV in Ft. Lauderdale today, but they told me that they couldn’t give me any temporary plates :( and that I had to talk to dealer I bought the car from, to get temporary plates for the car. So I have sent an email to dealer I bought the car from in May and hopefully he can help me with this.
I really don’t want to use our vacation in FL to hunt for plates.

You will HAVE to get insurance. As a dealer that issues temp tags, I have to see proof of insurance before I can issue someone a tag. I can only issue a temp tag if I am applying for a new tag .
