If you can cook, that'd be my suggestion.

Do everything she wants without spending money. Hopefully she realizes that all V-day is, is a way for the big wigs to make money. Just like Christmas has become. All people care about is presents and profit, not the real meaning of the holiday. If she understands that, just tell her how much you care about her, watch a sappy movie laying around the house, cook and wash the dishes, and make her happy.

Just make her feel special. Compliment her, pamper her, cook a nice meal, rent a chick flick, etc.

We aren't that hard to please.

Chick flick, cook dinner, candles, love slave....

can you skate? if she'* the type that doesn't have an issue with winter find a pond somewhere, pack a basket and take her skating. corny but it works! even if she doesn't skate herself, the fact that you wanted to try and teach her should make points.

failing that, be honest but do something out of character. tell her you are broke but you wanted her to know how much she means to you so you:

cleaned her place
was nice to her parents, best g/f that you can't stand, whomever!
are not normally mr romantic....go embarrassingly gushy

something where she knows you're doing it because you're broke but you're stepping far enough out of your comfort zone she knows she means something special.
