Default UPDATE!!!

Well, the other guy who got hit (one of my immediate co-workers) didn't have anyhting stolen. He got the deck out but must have been interupted because they found his deck tossed under his passenger seat. His Jeep had minor damage to the tailgate where he entered and moderate damage to the dash where he ripped the moldings off.

Now for mine...

I made a list (the best I can) of everything that is missing, even down to the wires, cheap cooling fans, rca cables, relay, etc... The total damage is approximetly $1000 in missing equipment.

The good news is I have filed an insurance claim. I have a $100 deductable and it will not effect my insurance rates at all. I also talked to one of our securit gaurds today. They have found video of him walking around in certain areas of the parking ramp, and possibly a match of him in a car trying to get in (unsuccessfully though). I don't know what the video quality is yet, wether it is useable or not. They are still pooring over many different cameras videos to see what they can find. The adjuster will be calling me before thursday to start to settle up on everything. Chances are the equipment is gone, but atleast I can get new stuff in it'* place.

wow. That is one of my biggest worries about having a system in my car.. I am paranoid about that sort of thing! What kinds of precautions did you take for anti-theft? I am always trying to secure things in my car so that it'* harder to steal. For my headunit, I have it all screwed down like any other radio, but I also have zip ties through the mounting holes.. then the radio is also backstrapped and secured to bolts below the center console.. I also take the face off of the radio whenever I'm not in the car. as for the sub box, I have heavy-duty 90* braces bolting the sub box on the sides to the back frame support behind my back seat, and also to the floor behind the sub box.. I've pulled with all my weight and that bitch won't move. lol. I also plan on bulilding a false-wall to hide everything.. anybody have any other anti-theft measures we could alll follow? I hate people who steal our stuff! I swear if I caught somebody breaking into my car I'd kill them!

Gord,

Something similar happened last October. My wife and I were up in MN on vacation and some perp busted out a window and stole close to 2K in stuff (no system--just souveniers, video camera, etc., etc. We lost money on that after paying two deductibles--homeowners for the contents and auto owners for the damage to her Van. Had to replace glass and repaint the door. It was raining the night that it happened, so our car was soaked inside too.

The hotel took no responsibility for the incident--even though it was their parking lot and we were their guests. The responding officer informed us that it happens roughly 60 times per night on weekends (Minniapolis area) The violent side of me wanted to come out in force that trip.

you know what time it is gordy right? time to make a custom security...that if you lock your car it is locked..and put sensors in your trunk so if anything is moved yoru alarm goes off...releases some gas...out the sides of your car...then spark plug...hehehe....how did htey get in the trunk?cuz my trunk button on my door only works when the key is in the ignition

All that fancy security doesn't do any good though if you leave your sunroof open and possibly the doors unlocked. It is entirely possible that the car would've been hit anyway, judging by the other vehicle hit, but it was definately an easy target. A fairly sensitive security system is an option, but a good thief know how to circumvent them, and a really bad one doesn't give a damn and will just try to be quick (and I'll bet this guy was bad considering the hack job on the other vehicle).

Really, something to avoid advertising an expensive stereo system is probably a better way to go, like the fake faceplates mentioned earlier...especially on our "grocery getters", no one would expect a rockin' system.

Just my opinion...take with a grain of salt.
