I hate this day. Something about it makes me remember things that aren't so great.

Even though I don't consider myself a vet, I look at those like my family and others who served and I have ask if I really did my part.

I look back on my time and I have plenty of stories to tell about various things. Then I think back to the older vets and how they don't/won't talk about what they've been through.

So with this in mind, I take this drink and salute those who have contributed more than I have in the name of military service.

For those of you still in uniform and those of you who may serve one day, may you come home as you left or may you leave a damn great impression on those you go against.

I wish no one has to hear a seven gun salute, if it doesn't bring tears, you've said bye to too many friends.

Just in time for Veteran's Day....

I noticed a link on a blog I visit that the band Drowning Pool is allowing a free download of their song "Soldier". The song can be legally downloaded here....

"The Soldier"

A United States Soldier was attending some college courses between assignments. He had completed missions in Iraq and Afghanistan One of the courses had a professor who was a vowed atheist and a member of the ACLU.

One day the professor shocked the class when he came in. He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, 'God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform. I'll give you exactly 15 minutes.' The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, 'Here I am God; I'm still waiting.' It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Soldier got out of his Chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him, knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold.

The Soldier went back to his seat and sat there, silently. The other students were stunned and sat there looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Soldier and asked, 'What the hell is the matter with you? Why did you do that?'

The Soldier calmly replied, 'God was too busy today protecting America 's soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid stuff and act like an ass. So, He sent me.'
