thats how they sell them,
Half kegs and 1/4 kegs then those stupid beer balls
no such thing as a whole keg to the public.

US beer keg = 15.5 gallons = 128 oz/gal x 15.5 = 1984 oz
1 case = 12oz x 24 = 288 oz
So,
1 keg = 6.9 cases
1/2 keg = 3.2 cases
1/4 keg = 1.6 cases
1 case = 12oz x 24 = 288 oz
So,
1 keg = 6.9 cases
1/2 keg = 3.2 cases
1/4 keg = 1.6 cases
Also,
a 1/2 keg is = 1/4 beer barrel because
a beer keg = 1/2 beer barrel and
1 beer barrel= 31 gallons
a 1/2 keg is = 1/4 beer barrel because
a beer keg = 1/2 beer barrel and
1 beer barrel= 31 gallons

We always called them 1/2 kegs too.... Have you seen the ones that are tall and skinny like a pop canister on steroids? The people simply put it into a kitchen garbage can filled with ice to keep it cold... was easier to handle than the tub. I asked them if that was a true keg or a smaller version... they swore it was a real 1/2 keg...

Full barrels are not available to the public, and are also not used commercially (in restaraunts/most bars) due to the fact that they cannot be transported well. Half barrel = keg.
