That is so dumb. Maybe the kid just didn't explain what he was doing properly, but actually I assume the teacher is a big douche. I've had this chat happen between a teacher and me before, but it didn't end up in detention because I gave up.

Long before Firefox came around, there was foxfire. Foxfire refers to the light given off by certain types of bio-luminescent fungus in American forests.
It used to be a commonly known thing, I guess everybody forgot about it when we stopped venturing outdoors...

I had gotten a dip slip for the same thing in grade 8, but no action. I did get detention for teaching somebody how to get to cmd32.exe and using the net send feature in grade 9 lol. He was my best friend at the time, and he got caught, and ratted out like 7 people. He'* still my friend, but whatever.

Some guy showed 1337ssei how to use the command prompt to free up any workstation and install programs, go to "reproductive" sites, and so on. It'* pretty funny. I did a little bit of hacking to some stuff, and I have a 30-digit number password so no one could get to my account.

Oh man...I got in plenty of e-trouble when I was in school, lol. One particular incident I became FAMOUS for my senior year. We weren't allowed to bring cash to school for lunch, so they had this system called the "Cafe Terminal" which you loaded up with money and entered your PIN number and it debited your account. When you entered your PIN, a large picture of you came up on the screen next to the lunch lady so she could verify it was you.
The pictures were simply jpegs stored in an UNSECURED networked folder readily available for anyone who had the smarts to find it on the network. Well, I happened to find it poking around one day...and I edited several pictures of students in MS Paint, lol. I put horns, mustaches, and nasty sayings on peoples shirts..hahahaha. Well, the next day at lunch those people entered in their PINs and those pictures came up...and the ENTIRE lunchroom, school staff and all, started roaring. Even the principle was dieing laughing, but someone snitched on me and I got a detention, haha. He didn't want to give me one tho, he could not stop laughing.
In 8th grade I ALWAYS used to Mailbomb people (back when you could hijack a mail server somewhere and send mail from any address you wanted, an as many as you wanted) and NetSend was a CLASSIC tool to screw around in the library, hah. Those were the days.
