I was at hot import nights in Ottawa and talked to a few guys that had an easy 100K invested in not only performance mods but everything else. There were a few guys talking offers of cash for racing. I believe that the show car world could be saved sans a few kids with over powered cars and to much money.

I know for a fact, that to make a civic a 12 second car WITHOUT a engine swap, it will cost at LEAST $10,000 to make it that fast. To me it seems to be a total waste when you could buy a L67 car, mod it for around $2,000 and make it a monster.

The first reason why they don't like bonneville'* is because the first prerequisite is that the car be a standard, not auto, therfore the Bonne is out. Spending $10,000. in these cars that they race is the bare minimum. They don't win to many races with only that amount of money invested. Also it'* a status thing for them, they virtually live in there cars. You ever see the movie Need For Speed, now you get the idea? Nitrous is a common word amounts these ......................I'd like to call them kids, but.......................there not anymore.

By the way, I'm going to assume that if you want a constant 12 second Bonne, you're going to have to spend more than $2,000.00 since the first tranny rebuit will cost you that, if you have someone rebuild it for you.

Living in Alberta is much the same, I can tell you, just being in Calgary working, driving on the main road in that city the limit is 60 mph, most of the time we're all going around 80, Alberta Provincal highway #2 runs north and south through the entire province, limit is 65, generally going more like 95-100 on that road...i would call it fairly normal as I am used to it, but, far to fast still non the less.
Lots of illegal street racing here too, not just stop light to stop light, many accidents, many people killed, frequently.

I think that'* kinda crazy, though. Just because you have the car fixed up to race doesn't mean you're street racing. My uncle raced his WRX, but never on the street, but he did DRIVE the WRX on the street. I think the pitbull thing it mentioned was crazy, too.

The 3 cars that have been involved the most in street racing were:

Honda Civic
Acura Integra
Some European car that I can't remember, something like an Eclipse.
If that is the case the cops are just after noisy fart-can powered 120HP wonders. "First one to reach their fuel cut-off point in less than 4 mins. wins!"

Buickman, thats the funniest thing I have read all week. Please bask in the fact that you made a drink come up thru my nose.
