Default Got Rice??

(Rant warning...yeah I know :-/ )

Im peacfully sleeping tucked away in bed dreaming of Bonnevilles..........All of a sudden I hear voices yelling???? What the???

Hmmm Maybe if I shake it off and turn, I will get back to my Bonneville dream, but I hear more yelling....WTF??? its Laura (Significant other) yelling at my son at 3:30 am about eating in his room.

Ok normally, I dont let Corey eat in his room, since he doesnt know how to be neat about it. So around 3:15am Corey gets up to heat up some rice with butter in the microwave, waking Laura in the process. Laura was enforcing the no eat in the bedroom rule at 3AM!!! She wasnt very nice about it either!! Corey being the child he is, takes the LARGE bowl of freshly buttered rice and flings it across his room.

I hear Laura tell him to "Clean this **** up!!!" and then came back to bed and layed down.

At this point, I know Corey is NOT cleaning it up. This is when I have to get out of bed to make Corey clean it up. Lots more yelling and disagreement from Corey but he cleaned it finally, while telling me how crappy of a dad I am and saying the usual hurtful things

I finally get back to laying down and start talking to laura telling her that she should learn when to pick her battles with my son. She got ALL bent out of shape because she thought I was laying blame on her, and partly I was.

Soooo I ended up grabbing my pillows and headed to the couch mumbling something about "I cant take this **** no more"

When Laura replied with the same, I then said "Good then move the F out"

I was pissed, wide awake and couldnt get back to sleep So around 4:30am i got up took a shower and headed to work and here I am Yayyyyyyy what a great way to start a FRIDAY morning!!!

The ONLY good thing that came of this? I got a closer parking spot in the lot this morning!!!

Lord HELP ME!!!

[/RANT]

Dude, that really sucks. Well, cool about the parking spot, but over all it really sucks.
I can actually visualize this as i read it, I feel like I've been through that. Thing aren't always peachy with my daughter and my wife.
Best advice would be to forget about it and don't worry about it til after work. I know that probably won't happen, but you know what I mean.

Much as I hate to say this, but I think I'm more on Laura'* side on this one. Not knowing/remembering how old Corey is, I gotta think he knew your response might be "Know when to pick your battles" and planned on playing on that.

Kids are smart about that kinda stuff, unfortunately. Whoever said "I love children. They're so innocent" is either severely deluded, or has never been around a kid for a few minutes. They are manipulative, evil little people. That'* why they're all so cute, otherwise we'd all kill our offspring at one point or another.

Unfortunately, I have no good advice on how to deal with this either. My kids would pull the same kind of stuff, and their mom and I would end up mad at each other for a while. But, we always got through it.

The only advice I have would be very bad, because at the time, I still believed in "Spare the rod, spoil the child" and I would ususally end up swatting someone'* ***. Which was not the way to handle it. My kids turned out pretty good, but I can't help but wonder how much better our relationship would be now if I had been a little bit calmer in those situations...

Maybe PMom, or one of the Tracy'* can help with this one.....

Well, Corey usually gets up in the middle of the night to raid the fridge. He knows the rules and should abide by them, but when its the middle of the night and were sleeping, theres nothing we can do about it.

Laura does need to learn to pick her battles with Corey. I believe that if the rules are boken, then there has to be consequence. The alternative to what happened this morning would have been to confront Corey this morning about eating in his room and dish out the appropriate punishment, not wake the entire house up yelling at him. At least thats what I would have done, but then again were different people.

Also the thing is, I have had this conversation with Laura on MANY occasions and it always comes to the fact that she feels that she has no say whatsoever. I constantly remind her that Corey is not a "normal" child, and while I know some of you may think that im trying to make excuses, im not by any means. Corey is Emotionaly unstable and can go from being a happy kid to snapping and tossing a fit because his shoes dont "look" right or anything little for that matter.

I try to lighten up the situation by calming him down and joking around a little bit until i can get Corey back down to the level that i can talk with him to find out why he got so upset.......Thats how it is. My son in a sense is handicaped and I dont think Laura sees him in that light, Just that he doesnt listen.

Corey needs to realize that the rules are the rules. I am for the most part his dicsiplinary and enforce the rules very strictly!!

there could have been a better way around this but Laura did not use her ADULT judgement and went about it the wrong way IMO.

Its all good though, I have become used to this, as this is how I live my life currently. :(

^^^ lol i refuse to kiss anyones ***. Corey is 12 years of age but I have to say emotionaly he is more like 8-9.

I can attribute that some of this behavior partly has to do with the way in which his mom treated him for years on end until I got custody of him. now its just fixing that behavior while dealing with his handicap. Im doing the best that I can and well im making small strides, but its better than nothing at this point.

Coreys medication is an appetite suppressant which is why he wakes in the middle of the night HUNGRY as heck and raids the fridge. his medicine is worn off by then.

I support Tony 100% I go through similar things with my wife and my oldest daughter. I agree completely you must pick you battles. 3:30 in the morning is not the time and place. It could have jsut as easily be handled in the morning when everyone is awake and level headed. Punsihment is meant to be punishment, not a way to vent your anger.
My daughter is VERY immature for her age due to problems in her mothers house, so I can relate. My wife doesn't understand this at all and thus the problems.
utlimately he needs to worry about taking care of his son and that is the bottom line.

Okay, I remember a little more of your situation now, and the battle you went through for custody.

You are in a tough situation, that is well out of my league...

Good luck, stick with it, and something will work itself out for you. The little bit I remember of what you told us about the situation a while back makes me think you're q great dad trying to make the best of a tough situation.
