Default got a new laptop what you think

well all i know i posted about this a few months ago and what i should get and well this was just a spur of the moment type deal. my desktop took a dump on me (mind you this is the second desktop that i have brought to the campus but they where both old)

so this morn i went a bought a new puter!! took my mom with me, that was a bad choise. well this one looks pretty. oh my ......

eaither way it was a toss up between the sony vaio with the centrino prossesor 1.7 ghz 60 gb hdd up to 128 vid. 14.5 monitor cd burner 1 gig ram
or
gate way amd 64 3000+ 80 gb hdd 15.4 monitor 64 mb vidoe 80 gb hdd dvd burner 1 gig ram


ok which on would you have gotten??? ive alredy have one of them but just seein if i made the right choise. oh ya the gateway was only 100 bucks more the the sony in price diff. just wondering what you all though. ill post back in about an hr with the full stats

well i went with the gateway. but i uped the ram to 1 gig
im using it for school at this time just for surfing the web and homework.
but next sem, i will be taking a cad class and intro to 3d imaging



oh ya i bought it from bestbuy just cause it was one of them i want it and i have the money so im gonna go buy it now. should have went online but oh well.

Not sure if you really want to be doing CAD on a laptop vs. a specialized desktop.. you know, the kind with a big monitor, dual processors, etc. I would think that the school would have something like that for you to work on though.

depends on the CAD program... I have run AutoCAD '06 and ProE on my computer and it is FAR from a strong computer.

Yeah, AutoCAD 2006 is beans for my IBM Thinkpad R51:

Pentium-M 1.6GHz
768MB RAM (originally had 512, either way no sweat)
ATI RADEON Mobility 9000

The downside is the fact that it'* a 15" model, but that also brings some light weight and compactedness...
