As some of you know, I'm a construction project engineer in Chicago and my company is the general contractor renovating a bunch of "L" train stations. Due to the volume of trains passing through during the day, our steel erector has opted to install new platform steel during the night to improve efficiency. Our regular superintendent is going on vacation, so starting this Thursday I'll be covering from 10pm-6am (vs. my usual 7am-5 or 6pm). The best part is I'll also be on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. WOOT! This ought to be interesting

I guess I'm not overly bummed or pissed since I usually work every other SaturDAY, but it'* definitely gonna throw my body clock for a loop, and it kinda sucks I have no weekend whatsoever. I've worked the past two as well. Another WOOT for salary without comp time or anticipated extra bonus

Don't you mean the EL? Elevated Rail?

Yeah working at night is always interesting. But not bad when summer rolls around and you're workin outside. With adequate lighting, I'd prefer that over mid day.

Thats a bummer, I'm a night owl and I would hate working those hours! How long are you going to be working that fun schedule?

WJC, it goes by both terms in Chicago that I've seen so far.

We don't normally work nights, it just so happens that it'* during the site superintendent'* vacation. The PM would never do nights...that falls down to the PE'*

4 nights so far, hopefully that'* the extent of it. Bonus that it'* over the weekend
