This is going in my '94, for sure.
Records > digital music for pure sound, especially dynamic stuff. But they're not transportable, can be worn down (unless you have an uber-expensive laser head record player) and are a PITA to find.

When CDs came out, I remember thinking they sounded like crap. When I said so, everyone looked at me like I was form Mars or something. I don't know if anyone else remembers, but there was SO MUCH hype.... these last forever, you don't have to worry about scratches (uh- huh) ... no noise... on and on and on. I've always thought they sounded tinny. Course everyone was busy shelling out $300 for a CD player at the time, and that'* not an environment open to much criticism.
So now on the odd occasion I'll haul out the turntable and the old albums. They still sound far superior to me, and I actually enjoy the occasional pop .. and it'* a bit of fun to find out I still remember which tracks have a skip in them, 25 years later.
Occassionally I'll also find the odd seed in the double albums as well.
Reminds me of the EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND episode where Ray is trying to convince his dad to listen to his old Jazz music on CD, but he refused and would only listen to it on his old "American vinyl."

Digital compression, especially MP3'* lose a TON of data when you get to very low volume points in the song. Dynamics are KILLED.
My speakers can show the differences, but thankfull my electronics equipment can't yet. MP3 CD'* RARELY go in my cd changer... They can't match CD-Audio even on good equipment.
We've got the original release of the star wars sound track on LP.
I'd love to get a great turntable, and Metallica'* *&M on vinyl though.

Not that that is a bad thing. When you were my age, it was 1990. Japan fell way before. Now 80 is what I THOUGHT you were.
Sorry Jim, you're older.
