My car while driving in 4th and OD would suddenly drop the gear and would only use 3rd at highway speeds (poor MPG). Until I shut off and restart the car. So I guessed it was the TPS sensor after what I have read here. I go to change my TPS sensor in my car today. First I strip the damn screws then finally getting them off. Put in a TPS my father had lying around. Now I go to drive the car. The car won't even go into Overdrive and at WOT won't exceed 4200 rpms. ^%$^*%$^%. Anyway put the old one back in and ordered a new one. Moral of the story
1. Don't use junk that’* lying around.
2. Always refer to Bonneville Club when you have a problem because you will save yourself some money aggravation
End of RANT/PRAISE

I got news for you. That was a symptom of mine as it was failing (the trans). Too much TCC slip so it disengages the TCC solonoid. Check your trans fluid bud. This doesn't sound like a TPS issue to me.

hopefully its just the tps, if the car were detecting too much tc slip wouldnt it set a code for that? or is my car just the exception here?
